Brooke Valentine Says Her Mother Told Her To Marry A Nigerian Man Or “A Light Skin With Good Hair”- She Didn’t Want Me To A ‘Nappy Head Baby Home’ [VIDEO]

R&B singer Brooke Valentine is sharing some interesting dating advice her mother once gave her.

While visiting the R&B Money Podcast, hosted by Tank and J. Valentine, the 37-year-old revealed dating Nigerian men was a requirement in her family. The “Girl Fight” artist told the show hosts she once thought she was of Nigerian descent because of how seriously the family was about marrying Nigerian. Speaking on the matter, Brooke Valentine, born Kanesha Nichole Brooks, stated:

 “Every woman in my family ran off and married a Nigerian man so this was a major part of me, you know what I mean. I thought I was Nigerian for the longest time.”

Laughing, she continued:

“It was thing. I was told I had to marry a Nigerian man….We’ll have to put my momma in this seat for her to explain that to y’all. It was like ‘you go out there and you find you a nice Nigerian man’….she said ‘or a light skin with good hair, it’s up to you….Cause the baby gotta have good hair. Don’t bring no nappy head baby home’.”

However it seems the advice mostly fell on deaf ears. During her time on the VHI reality series Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, Valentine opened up about her relationship with fellow musician Marcus Black. The Chicago rapper/writer joined the LHHH cast in season four of the series, after the pair confirmed their relationship.

Drama shrouded the beginning of the romance, due to Black still being legally married to his previous wife. However the two have seemingly been able to remain on track. Just a few weeks ago, Valentine penned a hilariously sweet message to her love on father’s day writing:

“think I’m about to type out a long a** caption to impress y’all after I gas dis man everyday? I think TF NOT #HappyFathersDay to da ones really putting that time in! @MvrcusBlvck you are unmatched! Love You”

Back in 2018, theJasmineBrand exclusively reported that the musician was expecting another child. Valentine gave birth to a daughter a year later, via surprise announcement that she and Black welcomed their first child together.

Additionally, the musical also parent two other children, one from each of their previous relationships.
