Chance The Rapper Reflects On Relationship W/ Kanye, Says He Had To “Re-evaluate” Their Friendship After Being Yelled At On Camera By The Yeezy Owner: I Got My Own Stuff I Gotta Deal With

Rap artist Chance The Rapper is opening up about his friendship with fellow rapper Kanye West.

During a recent interview, the Chicago native spoke on the the viral video where Kanye West, 44, is seen vehemently yelling at a group of seemingly close peers. After being asked about the video, Chance, born Chancelor Bennett, explained that he’d never been so close while the Donda artist was having “an episode”, and admitted to re-evaluating their friendship after.

Speaking on the video, the 29-year-old musician stated:

“I feel like obviously it’s a video so its a clip of a larger moment….no one’s ever going to get the full story of everything that’s going on that you see in a video clip….But in all honesty it’s like, this is real life. I have real friends and they go through real problems,”

He continued:

“I try to be my most real self and talk to people the way that I talk to them as if they’re my friend….I think that video clip kind of exploited a moment that was like….it was a genuine moment. I did come out there to check on my friend…Me and a lot of other people still got love for Ye. He’s a human he’s not perfect.”

After the interviewer asked the Coloring Book artist if the situation made him back away from the friendship, he responded:

“It made me evaluate my friendship with him, for sure….I had never been so close to him going through an episode. I’ve talked to him after he’s went through stuff before….this is somebody that I really like love and talk to….it did just make me realize, I have a whole life in Chicago. I have my own stuff I gotta deal with.”

The video in question was a clip that was included in West’s recent Netflix documentary Jeen-Yuhs. The majority of West’s career life is covered in the three-part project. Beginning with his start making beats in his hometown of Chicago, to becoming one of the greatest rappers of all time.

West has been open and honest about dealing with his bipolar disorder, which his estranged wife Kim Kardashian has alluded may be a reason behind their split. After announcing their pending divorce, West lashed out at the reality star and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson several times on social media. Ultimately finding himself on a 24hr Instagram ban.

Despite his issues, Chance says he still has love and respect for West. Rapping up the conversation he stated:

“At the end of the day, I definitely love the dude. That’s my guy. It sucks that sometimes people can exploit a moment that is a genuine moment.”
