Ashanti Addresses Irv Gotti’s Recent Claims That She Abandoned Him During His 2005 Arrest In Resurfaced Interview: I Flew Back & Forth 4 To 5 Times Just To Go To The Trial [VIDEO]

It seems like Irv Gotti’s recent claims against Ashanti might not hold much weight after old footage discussing the pair’s relationship recently surfaced.

A previous interview with R&B singer Ashanti, 41, has resurfaced on the internet. In the video, the songstress addresses the co-founder of her former label, Irv Gotti’s, recent claims that she abandoned him when he was arrested in 2005 and that they once had has a sexual relationship.

As previously reported, during his recent interview on “Drink Champs,” Irv Gotti, 52, got candid about his relationship with his former label artist Ashanti. The record executive discussed how he surprisingly found out that the “Happy” singer and rapper Nelly, 47, were an item. Gotti also shared that Ashanti’s 2002 hit single “Happy” was inspired after the two had a love-making session.

Now, Gotti’s latest claims against Ashanti involve accusing the New York artist of abandoning him and the record label that built her career. The label co-founder expressed that he felt betrayed by Ashanti after she allegedly wanted to leave Murder Inc. Records when he was wrongly accused of using his music label to launder money for Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff of the legendary Supreme Team. He explained,

“When the feds hit, she ran like the cockroaches when you turn the lights on. She was ready to get the f*ck off of the Murder Inc. label and she was ready to abandon me, the person who made her. And yes, I can say I made her. How do you know I can say that firmly? The minute I stop making her records – she has not made a hit since.”

However, in the old interview clip, Ashanti can be heard opening up about her issues with Gotti, born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. In regards to his arrest, Ashanti seemingly denies any wrongdoings amid his false conviction. She began with,

“I feel like a lot of things he painted one-sided. He painted a perception that was his. You know what I mean? And I felt like for a long time I was just quiet and I let it rock.”

The “Rain On Me” singer explained,

“I think the biggest thing is Irv always says I’m disloyal, you know? And I didn’t ride out and I didn’t want to throw up the M’s. You know what I’m saying? And I felt like that was so one-sided because first of all it wasn’t true.”

Ashanti continued,

“[…] I flew back and forth like four or five times just to go to the trial. You know what I’m saying? And we weren’t even talking at all, at all.”

She added,

“When you’re telling me, ‘Ashanti you can’t come and record at the studio right now.’ What am I supposed to do? You know what he told me? ‘Go over to Derrty Entertainment (Nelly’s label). Go to Derrty ENT.’ So what am I supposed to do?”
