Lil Tjay Shares Footage Of His First Steps Following Near-Death Shooting
Lil Tjay is able to walk after being shot multiple times in New Jersey.
On Wednesday (September 7), Bronx-rapper Lil Tjay, 21, shared an update with fans on his recovery since the shooting in June. Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, took to his official TikTok account and uploaded a video showing him being supported while walking for the first time after being shot.
While on his way to recovering in the hospital and returning to music, the singer/song-writer also had a caption over the video, which addressed the scary news reports that came out about the shooting. Tjay wrote over the video snippet,
“The blogs said I was paralyzed and couldn’t walk. But I started walking a week after surgery. I beat the odds.”
The rap artist captioned the post,

As previously reported, Tjay was shot in Edgewater, New Jersey on Wednesday (June 22) in an apparent attempted robbery just after midnight. Reportedly, the New York rapper and his crew were sitting inside an SUV outside a shopping center known to attract celebrities.
Reports state that there were two shooting sites – one of them occurred at a nearby Chipotle and the other incident occurred at an Exxon gas station. Tjay was rushed into surgery and remained unconscious for some time. A man named Mohamed Konate, 27, was arrested on behalf of shooting Tjay multiple times. The gunman was also taken to a hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
According to reports, Mohamed Konate was charged with three counts of attempted murder and armed robbery. If convicted, he faces life in prison for the crime.
