Radio personality Angie Martinez opens up about a heartbreaking reveal that changed her life.

While interviewing Kelly Rowland–who recently reconnected with her father after 30 years–Angie Martinez shared her own story as a way to relate to the Destiny Child’s songstress.

After her friend and former Basketball Wives Star Evelyn Lozada encouraged Angie Martinez to search for information on her father–whom she thought had died, the radio host was faced with a shocking revelation.

Martinez tells Rowland,

“Two days later I get a picture of a man from Evelyn Lozada and she says, ‘Could this guy be your father?’ And I’m like ‘Holy sh*t, that’s absolutely my father.’ He is not dead, he does not appear to be on drugs. He’s like in shape, healthy. He’s living right outside of Chicago. He’s married. A member of a church. This was 2019. “

She continues,

“I’m freaking out. I thought he was dead since I was 10. I’m now forty-something years old, there’s man that’s my father and is alive…I always had grace and compassion for him. I was like ‘he was on drugs, he had a problem.'”

Martinez then reveals that her father wasn’t open to getting to know her.

“So he called. The wife knew nothing of my existence, she didn’t even know he had a child. I’ll just say he wasn’t openly receptive to connecting.”

While discussing the heartbreaking experience, Angie Martinez became emotional and started to cry as Kelly Rowland showed sympathy.

Martinez says that the incident hardened her for a while and she didn’t give people grace.

“It shifted something in me for a minute. I started being super judgemental about people…All these years I thought he was a drug addict, I felt bad for him, I never had anger. So then all of a sudden, I was like, ‘Oh, he wasn’t a drug addict who had problems and couldn’t–he’s not a good guy.”
