Kendrick Lamar Admits Hesitating To Release ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ Over Concerns Of How The Project Would Affect His Children In The Future: I’m A Private Person, It Was Tough For Me
Kendrick Lamar was indecisive about putting out his latest album.

During a recent interview, Kendrick Lamar, born Kendrick Lamar Duckworth opened up about the feelings he had before putting out his latest LP. As you may already know, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” is Kendrick Lamar’s fifth studio album which was released back in May. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. According to reports, it has been stamped as the rapper’s most vulnerable project. In the interview, the 35-year-old shared that he contemplated not putting out the hit album. He shared,
“When I got to completion and I said, ‘I may or may not put this out; I’m not going to put this out; it’s way too much,’ I thought about my children.”
The Compton native continued:
“I thought about when they turn 21, or they’re older in life, and when I got grandchildren, or if I’m long gone—this can be a prerequisite of how to cope. That’s the beauty of it for me.”
Discussing touching on personal family matters on the album, he added:
“I’m a private person; it was tough for me.”
The father of two shared:
“The reason why I had to make that decision, whether they was for or against it, I just didn’t want the influence. I could have cut corners and got flashy with it and worded my words a certain way—nah, I had to be in the rawest, truest form I could possibly be in order for it to be freeing for me, in order for me to have a different outlook and the perspective on people I’m talking to. I had to reap whatever consequences came behind that, and also be compassionate and show empathy if they were hurt by it.”

From the sound of it, the “Swimming Pools” artist is working on another album. As previously reported, during an interview with Sounwave, Kendrick announced he was working on an album less than three months after he released his last LP. Kendrick previously said:
“We always start, immediately after. Like, we’re starting on the next one now. That’s never going to change, all the way from the Kendrick Lamar EP. The next day, we started on Section.80.”
He added:
“It’s just the ideas never stopped. That’s one of the main reasons I go on tour with him, is to create the next album. We can’t skip a beat. We have to just keep it going. There’s no breaks.”
