EXCLUSIVE: HBO Max Not Renewing Voguing Competition Series ‘Legendary’
It looks like HBO Max’s ‘Legendary‘ is getting axed!
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports that HBO Max’s hit series ‘Legendary‘ may be getting canceled. Sources tell us it will more than likely be pulled due to the HBO Max and Discovery Plus merger.
According to reports, by the summer of 2023, HBO Max and Discovery+ will merge into a new streaming service. As for what content will be available on this new app, expect a combination of what’s already on the two existing platforms, with some programs/films, unfortunately, being removed between now and the date of the official merge.
HBO Max’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery has already begun removing content. For example, Warner removed six streaming-only movies from HBO Max recently, including Seth Rogen’s An American Pickle and Melissa McCarthy’s Superintelligence. Surprisingly, Warner also canceled the release of Batgirl last week. Reportedly, the film had already been shot and was in post-production with a budget of $90 million before Warner gave it the axe.
With the removal of content, popular shows like ‘Legendary‘ may get the boot along with other fan favorites.
‘Legendary’ is a voguing reality competition series, exploring the world of ballroom culture. It premiered on HBO Max on May 27, 2020. The series follows LGBT house members—predominantly from eight to ten houses—as they navigate through nine balls (dancing/voguing/walking events), with a $100,000 prize for the winning house. The series was previously praised by GLAAD for featuring queer and trans artists “from the New York ballroom scene.”
To date, there have been 3 seasons of ‘Legendary’ with no word yet if it will be renewed for a 4th. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series are currently available to stream on HBO Max.
