Tory Lanez Hires Casey Anthony’s Former Attorney In Addition To Suge Knight’s Former Representation In Attempt To Have Guilty Verdict In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Trial Overturned
Rap star Tory Lanez is building himself an all-star appeal lineup.
Recent reports have learned the Canadian musician brought on Casey Anthony’s former attorney Jose Baez to his appeal team to assist in having his guilty conviction overturned.
If you recall, the 2011 trial of Casey and Calee Anthony shocked the world after young Calee turned up dead subsequently being reported missing by her grandmother. Though all signs and evidence seemed to have pointed to mother Casey Anthony killing her infant daughter, her defense team, led by Baez, was successful in winning her a not guilty verdict on the murder charges. Casey and Baez seemed to have placed reasonable doubt in the mind of jurors by pinning the blame on Anthony’s father.

Baez also successfully represented deceased football star Aaron Hernandez in a double murder case. Reports state the attorney was in the midst of filing an appeal for the athlete’s murder conviction when he took his own life.
The recent move by Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, 30, is certainly aligned with efforts of getting his recent conviction overturned. In December of last year, the “Chixtape 5” artist was found guilty of the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Though he’s maintained his innocence the entire time, it seems jury and onlookers were swayed following by an apologetic phone call from Lanez after the incident.

Earlier this month, Lanez fired his trial legal team and hired attorney David Kenner, who successfully represented hip-hop icon Suge Knight in a 90’s robbery case. Kenner did not represent the musician when he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2018. Additionally, Kenner also reportedly got rapper Snoop Dogg acquitted on a murder trial in the 90’s.

Lanez was found guilty of three felonies, including — assault with a semiautomatic firearm, vehicle possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Sentencing for the verdict was rescheduled to the 28th of next month at Kenner’s request. If unsuccessful in his appeal, the rapper is facing deportation and a possible 22 years in prison.
