Run-DMC To Perform Last-Ever Concert This Spring As Part Of Documentary Production: ‘We Done Did What We Could Do’

Run-DMC is coming to an end!

In a recent interview, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels announced that the iconic hip-hop group will be closing the curtain on performing following their last-ever show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden this spring. Darryl McDaniels said:

“Run-DMC is over.”

The 58-year-old added:

“The only way Run-DMC gets back together is if The Beatles get back together. Can that happen?”

He then shared that the performance is connected to the group’s upcoming documentary.

“The final show that we are ever going to do is going to be at Madison Square Garden in April. It’s going to be the last episode of the documentary we’re doing. Run-DMC’s last show ever. ‘Cause it’s time for Run to go be Paul McCartney and me to be John Lennon. We done did what we could do.”

DMC continued and revealed that other hip-hop legends — including Ice-T and the Wu-Tang Clan — will also be performing during the homecoming concert. He said:

“The show is going to be like The Last Waltz by The Band. We’re doing that movie idea. You’ll see Ice-T come and do a song with us. You’ll see Wu-Tang come do a song with us. Anybody can buy a ticket to the show.”

The rapper went into candid details about Run-DMC’s documentary, comparing it to the 2017 HBO docuseries “The Defiant Ones.” In addition, he announced that they plan to release the film through Netflix or another streaming platform. He explained:

“We’re gonna do it with Netflix or to the highest bidder. It’s going to be a live production. Run-DMC’s doing The Last Waltz at Madison Square Garden. Who wants to pay $100 million to own it?”

Run-DMC was founded in 1983 and originally consisted of Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. The trio became the first rap group to achieve a Gold record in 1984. 

On October 30, 2002, the group received unfortunate news regarding the death of Jam Master Jay. The group member was shot once in the head with a .40-caliber bullet at his studio in Jamaica, Queens by a mysterious masked man over an alleged botched cocaine exchange. As previously reported, in 2020, after 18 years of investigation, two suspects were charged in connection to the murder of Jam Master Jay.

In 2016, the hip-hop legends were honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, solidifying their mark on the movement of hip-hop.
