Kanye West’s Hate Speech Against Jewish Community Linked To 30 Antisemitic Incidents In U.S.
Kanye West might be a prime example of why you should be careful with your words.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has released a report linking Kanye West’s “bigoted rants” to 30 antisemitic incidents since the fall of 2022. As you may recall, throughout last year the “Donda” rapper made headlines for the numerous antisemitic rants he gave on social media and during interviews. He even threatened to go “death con 3” on the Jewish community. In a since-removed tweet, he said,
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

The ADL report, which was released on Monday (Feb. 13), links acts of vandalism, banner drops, harassment, and more to Kanye West because of his hate speech. In a statement the ADL said,
“These incidents — which include vandalism, banner drops, targeted harassment and campus propaganda distributions — demonstrate the ongoing influence of Ye’s conspiratorial, bigoted rants.”
The statement continued,
“Immediately following Ye’s antisemitic comments, which included inflammatory tropes about Jewish power and Holocaust denial, the slogan ‘Ye Is Right’ surfaced online in hashtags and antisemitic accounts. The ADL Center on Extremism has also tracked references to ‘Ye Is Right’ in instances of on-the-ground antisemitic vandalism and harassment nationwide.”

Reportedly, many of these antisemitic incidents happened at K-12 schools, universities, Jewish institutions, public areas, and commercial locations. Allegedly, on college campuses, a group of white supremacists hosted a series of “Ye is right, change my mind” meetings. In addition, someone wrote “Kanye was right” and “Defcon III” on a sidewalk on the University of Wisconsin campus.

Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of ADL, elaborated on the report in a separate statement and said,
“Kanye West’s repeated antisemitic remarks – and his dredging up some of the worst anti-Jewish tropes imaginable – doubtlessly are having an impact and inspiring people to commit real-world acts of hate.”
Greenblatt added.
“As we have long maintained, celebrities and others who engage in spreading hateful tropes need to know their words have consequences. Unfortunately, Kanye’s decision to continue to peddle hatred against Jews is only giving encouragement to people who are already infected with hate.”

This report may come as no surprise to some. As previously reported, following Kanye’s “death con 3” tweet, a group of white supremacists displayed their mutual disdain for the Jewish community near the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles by hanging a banner that said,
“Kanye is right about the Jews.”
