Update: Marvin Gaye III Files For Divorce 2 Months After Domestic Violence Arrest
Update: (Mar. 22, 2023): Looks like Marvin Gaye III and his estranged wife, Wendy Gaye, were not able to work things out.
As you may recall, In January Wendy filed a restraining order against Marvin after he was arrested for a domestic violence incident. Marvin allegedly physically assaulted his wife and her cousin and also pointed a gun at the women.
Two months later, and Marvin has filed a few legal documents of his own. According to reports, the son of the “Let’s get it on” singer recently filed for divorce from Wendy. Based upon his cited date of separation — Jan. 12 — it seems like things between the pair haven’t been okay for a while.
Original story: (Jan. 18, 2023): Marvin Gaye III’s wife, Wendy Gaye has filed a restraining order against her husband after he was arrested for domestic violence.
Wendy Gaye reportedly went to court on Tuesday (Jan. 17) and filed for a domestic violence restraining order against her husband. According to court documents, Marvin Gaye III allegedly physically assaulted his wife and cousin during an argument at his Calabasas home on Jan. 12. He also allegedly pointed a gun at both women.
Reportedly, police surrounded the couple’s home and called for Marvin to come out, however, he had already fled the scene. He then turned himself over to authorities the next day. Marvin was booked on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge and a felony assault with a deadly weapon charge. He was later released after posting a $50,000 bond.
According to reports, an emergency protective order was issued to make sure Marvin stays away from his home and those living there.
Marvin Gaye III is the adopted son of the late Marvin Gaye and his late wife Anna Gordy Gaye. Anna’s niece, Denise Gordy, was the biological mother of Marvin III.
As you may know, Marvin Gaye’s life was cut short by the hands of his father. On April 1, 1984, the Motown legend intervened in a fight between his parents in their family’s Los Angeles home. He eventually got into a physical altercation with his father, Marvin Gay Sr., who shot Gaye twice, once in the chest, and then into his son’s shoulder, in his bedroom. Gaye died at 44, one day short of his 45th birthday.
