Nick Cannon Says Backlash To Past Antisemitic Comments Was A ‘Growth Moment’ For Him

Nick Cannon has learned a valuable lesson after facing backlash for his past comments many viewed as hate speech.

In a new interview with AllHipHopTV, media personality Nick Cannon, 42, discussed the antisemitic comments he made on his “Cannon’s Class” podcast back in 2020.

During the chat, the television host was reportedly asked if he “learned anything” after getting fired by ViacomCBS for calling Jewish people “savages” and saying that Black people are the “true Hebrews.” Nick Cannon reflected and said,

“I’m gonna be super honest with you, man. That process was a growth moment for me on so many levels as a man.”

He shared,

“And I even now, we have a podcast, myself and the CEO of the [Anti-Defamation League], Jonathan Greenblatt, called Solutions: To Hate or Not To Hate. And it’s really talking about the equation of our two communities from two different perspectives…. We voice our side, or the perspective as a Black man, and then he voices his side from a Jewish man.”

The actor/comedian continued,

“Even that alone is helpful and educational for both communities right and again too because that’s the thing we can sit up here and be enraged but if we don’t engage, what are we really doing if we can’t learn from one another?”

Moving forward, Nick reportedly said he is “no longer about just talk” and will continue,

“putting my money where my mouth is and my energy to where my heart is.”

Reportedly, he thinks this approach will benefit “the next people who say something in front of a microphone” so they,

“can have an understanding of what it is so they don’t stumble and fumble and have to lose opportunities or get so-called canceled.”

Nick added,

“It’s just about bringing people closer together. Ultimately, nobody’s monolithic but we’re all one organism that allows this thing to keep pumping.”

As we previously reported, the American entertainer found himself in the hot seat after making comments that many deemed as antisemitic on his YouTube channel’s podcast series.

Not long after the announcement of his (temporary) termination from ViacomCBS, the creator and host of “Wild ’n Out” released an official statement and apologized for his comments. Nick said,

“First and foremost I extend my deepest and most sincere apologies to my Jewish sisters and brothers for the hurtful and divisive words that came out of my mouth during my interview with Richard Griffin. They reinforced the worst stereotypes of a proud and magnificent people and I feel ashamed of the uninformed and naïve place that these words came from. The video of this interview has since been removed.”

Nick’s partnership with ViacomCBS resumed in early 2021 and he was rehired to host the hit comedy improv series “Wild ’n Out.” According to reports, MTV Entertainment Group said Nick had “taken responsibility for his comments” and “worked to educate himself” by having discussions with Jewish leaders.
