According to the film’s official description, Barbie leaves Barbieland after being kicked out for having a less-than-ideal doll appearance in an effort to achieve true happiness in the real world.

As previously reported, Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling as Ken in the film. There will, however, be various races and variations of each. Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Ana Cruz, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, and Ncuti Gatwa are also slated to be part of the ensemble of Barbies and Kens.
Issa Rae’s notable credits include Insecure (2016–2021), The Hate U Give (2018), Little (2019), and 2020 films The Photograph and The Lovebirds. She will also voice Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, also set to be released this year.
