Tori Bowie, Olympic Gold Medalist, Found Dead In Apartment

Sad news!

Former Olympic and world champion, Tori Bowie, has passed away at 32 years old. According to reports, the athlete was found dead at her Florida residence. Her body was discovered by the local sheriff’s department. Reportedly, authorities went “for a well-being check of a woman in her 30s who had not been seen or heard from in several days.” As of now, the cause of death remains unknown but the department said they are not treating it as suspicious.

On Wednesday morning (May 3) Tori Bowie’s agent, Kimberly Holland, took to Instagram to confirm the devastating news. She wrote:

“We’re devasted to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family, friends and everyone that loved her. As the story continues to develop, we ask that you please respect our privacy.”

The Mississippi-raised runner was a very accomplished athlete. As a minor, she won two state high school championships in the 100 and 200-meter dash and the long jump. She also won three state titles in the 4×100 relay.

In 2016, Bowie brought home three Olympic medals from the Rio Games. She earned silver in the 100-meter dash, bronze in the 200-meter dash and gold as the anchor for the 4×100 relay alongside Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix and English Gardner.

Bowie also won the 100-meter dash and 4×100 relay at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London.

The track and field community and fans have taken to Twitter to share their reactions to the tragic news. Lolo Jones — an American hurdler and bobsledder — said:

“too young. Gutted to hear about Tori Bowie. Incredible talent. A beautiful runner. I pray for the comfort of her family, thank your for blessing us with her. The running community mourns an incredible loss”
