Update: (Jul. 12, 2023): Looks like Meek Mill isn’t apologetic for advocating for Tory Lanez’s release.

As previously reported, the Philadelphia native recently found himself in the hot seat after yelling “Free Tory Lanez… one time!” into the mic during his Rolling Loud Portugal set.

In addition to Tory currently being behind bars for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, many were thrown off by Meek’s support of the “Say It” artist because the two have thrown shots at one another over the years.

However, it seems that despite their rocky relationship, Meek is advocating for the release of all jailed rappers, including Tory. He shared via Threads,

“I say free young thug … free lucci. – free melly I don’t even know why y’all start dealing with us if yall gone try to smear us That’s why I stick to the trenches”

Over the weekend, rapper Meek Mill faced backlash for giving a nod to fellow artist Tory Lanez during his Rolling Loud Portugal set.

As previously reported, in December 2022, a now-jailed Tory Lanez was convicted of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic handgun, possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and negligent discharge of a firearm.

The charges stem from a controversial dispute between Tory Lanez and rapstress Megan The Stallion where he (allegedly) shot her in her feet in 2020.

While bringing his performance of his and Lanez’s 2016 collaboration “Litty” to a close, in a viral clip, Meek Mill can be heard shouting into the festival’s mic,

“Free Tory Lanez… one time!”

Of course, the shoutout came as a shock to many, seeing as though former friends Mill and Lanez (seemingly) hadn’t been too fond of each other for a while.

Fans online brought up Lanez’s diss toward Mill in his 2022 track “Mucky James,” where he raps,

“Meek Mill, he used to be my dawg, he did some flaw sh*t to me (too legit). And when I brought it up, lil’ cuh wouldn’t even talk about it. Ain’t beefin’ with you cuh, I swear I’m more hurt than anything. I’m at this point in life where I don’t stress the petty thing.”

They then mentioned an Instagram comment from Mill that confirmed he didn’t “mess” with the Canadian entertainer.

The statement reportedly came after Lanez pettily hopped under the Philly emcee’s post and corrected the spelling in one of his captions.

Additionally, users linked Mill’s split from Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to his newfound support of Lanez, who accused the imprint of having a hand in his legal beef with their signee, Megan Thee Stallion.

An individual tweeted,

“Meek and Tory only had an issue because Roc Nation told him he can’t associate with Tory Lanez because of the Meg thing.”

They continued,

“[Meek] knows they rigged that whole case and now that he’s off Roc Nation, he can say how he truly feel.”

Another Twitter user also slammed Mill by briefly recalling his ex’s (Nicki Minaj) abuse claims against him in 2020. Nicki Minaj’s accusations came after Mill was seen liking memes that made fun of her husband, Kenneth Petty.

She said,

“You beat your own sister and taped it. Spit on her & taped it. Kicked me in front [of] your mother and sent her to the hospital Sucking [Drake’s] d*ck made u feel tough again. Move on.”

In relation to Nicki Minaj’s statements, the critic added in regard to his recent support of Tory Lanez,

“Not surprised to see this. Abusers gone always support one another.”

So far, Mill hasn’t responded to the scrutiny, and neither has Lanez spoken from behind bars yet.
