Whoopi Goldberg Addresses Her Sexuality After Raven-Symoné Says Actress Gives ‘Lesbian Vibes’
Whoopi Goldberg is not a lesbian — but she is an ally.
The Sister Act star addressed the rumors about her sexual orientation while having a discussion with Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda on the most recent episode of The Best Podcast Ever. Whoopi Goldberg’s remarks came after Raven-Symoné shared that she suspected Goldberg was a lesbian during their brief time as co-workers on the ABC daytime program The View (from 2015 to 2016).
During the podcast episode, Raven-Symoné said to Whoopi Goldberg,
“I want to just dig into your business a little bit, this is a safe space.”
She added,
“Honestly, when I was around you, I loved you so much like I just wanted to be up underneath the t***y the whole time! But that’s also because you just kind of gave me lesbian vibes!”
Whoopi Goldberg, a mother of one, clarified that she is “not a lesbian,” but has many friends who are and she has no problem playing lesbian characters on television. She said,
“Women have been asking me this for as long as I’ve been around, I am not a lesbian. But I know lots of them, and I’ve played them on television.”
Goldberg continued,
“But I have always had lesbian friends because they’re just my friends. I’m not gonna kiss you, but I’ll kiss you over here, I’ll do this but I’m not going to do this… And they’re like, “OK!”‘
Raven-Symoné isn’t the only industry star who has no problem expressing their love for the Ghost actress.
Keke Palmer previously shared that it was Goldberg who took her out of her comfort zone and stopped her from putting herself second in the bedroom. During a conversation on Baby, This Is Keke Palmer Podcast, the Nope actress recalled receiving an intimate and important tip from Goldberg while having “a really great conversation” about sex.

Keke Palmer said,
“I’ll never forget, I was on ‘The View’ one time, and they were having a conversation about sex, a really great conversation, and Whoopi Goldberg said, ‘please just – start with pleasing yourself.’ And I was like, ‘That rings true.’”
She added,
“My identity with sex – it was always based upon, ‘Oh, I just gotta do this service.’ And my enjoyment, any enjoyment that I had at that era, in that point, in that time, came from, ‘I’m glad they’re happy.’ That was, like, depressing and not enough, because I realized, like, ‘Well, wait a d*mn minute … this isn’t you, know what I’m saying?”
Raven-Symoné, who has been in the entertainment industry since she was a child, previously said she knew she was lesbian at the age of 12, but she didn’t come out until she was in college. In a 2016 interview, Raven, who portrayed Olivia on The Cosby Show, admitted,
“I knew I couldn’t say it out loud because, “Oh my god, little Olivia is gay, this is crazy.'”

While other TV stars were openly gay at the time, Raven claimed she never felt like it was the right moment for her to reveal her truth. After she finally came out, the former Disney star said she “felt lighter” and like she could be herself.
Raven married social media manager Miranda Maday in June 2020.

Despite getting married (and divorced) three times, Goldberg — who appears to currently be single — shared earlier this month that she wished she had never walked down the aisle.
