Update: Bronny James Cleared To Return To Basketball Four Months After Cardiac Arrest

Update #4: (Nov. 30, 2023): Bronny James can finally get back to doing what he loves!

As previously reported, in July, the USC basketball player suffered cardiac arrest during practice. After the scary event, the teen took some time away from the court to focus on his recovery. Earlier today (Nov. 30) news broke that Bronny is all set to make his return and will resume practice next week with his team.

A statement from Bronny’s family spokesperson said,

“The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!”

Update #3: (Jul. 27, 2023): Bronny James is back home with his family.

According to reports, the young USC basketball player has been discharged from the hospital and is home resting up.

Merije Chukumerije, the reported consulting cardiologist for Bronny, released a statement through Cedars-Sinai and said,

“Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest. He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting.”

The statement continued,

“Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.”

Update #2: (Jul. 27, 2023): LeBron James is thankful for the people that rallied around his family during a very scary moment.

As you may recall, 18-year-old Bronny James was rushed to the hospital on Monday (Jul. 24) after suffering cardiac arrest during basketball practice. Today (Jul. 27) LeBron took to this Twitter to publically address the situation for the first time. He tweeted,

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great.”

The tweet continued,

“We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang”

Update: (Jul. 26, 2023): Things are looking up for Bronny James!

As previously reported, the USC athlete was rushed to the hospital on Monday (Jul. 24) after suffering cardiac arrest during basketball practice. According to TMZ, Bronny — son of LeBron and Savannah James — is already on the road to recovery and was only in the ICU for a short period. Insiders have shared that his parents are “relieved” he’s doing better. They added that a word to describe the couple is “optimistic.”

However, doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reportedly still need to determine what caused the 18-year-old’s heart to stop and will be performing more tests.

At this time, it’s unclear when Bronny will be released from the hospital or make his return to the basketball court.

Original story: (Jul. 25, 2023): LeBron James’ son, Bronny, was taken to a hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during basketball practice.

According to reports, around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning (Jul. 24) a 911 call was made from USC’s Galen Center, which is where the school’s basketball teams hold their practices and games. Reportedly Bronny, 18, was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

A spokesperson for the James family confirmed the incident with TMZ and said,

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”

The statement continued,

“LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
