K. Michelle Reacts To Fans Asking If She’s Okay After Beyoncé Announces Country Album: ‘Why Would Anyone Need To Check On Me?’
K. Michelle is weighing in on Beyoncé going country.
Early Monday (Feb. 12), the ‘V.S.O.P.’ songstress responded to a social media user via X (formerly Twitter) who asked if anyone has “checked on” her after Beyoncé announced she’s releasing a country album next month.
They also wrote that,
“Bey will bring pressure to Country music”
In response, K. Michelle, who previously made the move from R&B to country, wrote,
“Why would anyone need to check on me. I’m one of the greatest African American country singers of all times with no album even out.”
She continued,
“Yall been mentioning me ALL night. I’m just happy to be spoke about in my genre. I love Bey and will be supporting her like i always do????”

K. Michelle, who recently performed at the CMAs with Grammy-nominated country breakout star Jelly Roll, has been vocal about her love for the genre after topping the R&B charts. She said last year,
“Basically, I was told that going into R&B was the only route, or at least the easiest route. So, that’s what I did. But there was always this little piece of loneliness and a sadness in me because I couldn’t do what I know I was supposed to do.”
She added,
“Country music is who I am. If you got to live your life not being who you are, it’s going to always be a problem for you.”
It’s safe to say there’s plenty of room for major artists to make the move. Monica announced last week that she’s also releasing a country album, Open Roads, which will be executive-produced by country star Brandi Carlile. Monica said of the project:
“It’s a real country album. It’s not an R&B girl doing country music. It’s a country girl doing country music.”
