Kim Kardashian Issues An Apology After Getting Blasted By NYC Man She Mistakenly Posted As A Death Row Inmate With The Same First And Last Name
Kim Kardashian has been called out after she mixed up a New York resident with a death row inmate.
The Keeping Up With Kardashians star meant to share a picture of Ivan Cantu, a Texas man currently on death row, on her Instagram Story in hopes of getting her followers to petition for a review of his case. But instead, she posted a picture of Ivan A. Cantu, a project manager in New York.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, the project manager reacted to the mistake. The man also included a screenshot of Kim Kardashian’s Instagram Story, which featured a black-and-white portrait of himself, detailing instructions on how to sign a petition. He wrote,
“To all my friends and family, I am not getting executed, some idiot who runs @kimkardashian used my picture instead of Ivan ‘Abner’ Cantu.”

While speaking to TMZ, the New York resident, who is not in prison, acknowledged that it was likely a mistake and that he isn’t against an apology from Kim Kardashian.

Following the social media mixup, Kim apologized on her Instagram Story. With the correct image of Ivan Cantu, the Texas man on death row inmate, she wrote,
“A wrong image of Mr. Cantu was posted earlier today and I would like to apologize to the person who’s image was used in error.”

The SKIMS founder has been speaking out in support of death row inmate Ivan Cantu. A petition calls for Texas Governor Greg Abbott to withdraw his execution date after new evidence may prove his innocence. Tens of thousands have signed as it comes closer to reaching the goal of 200,000 signatures.

Kim also shared a message on X, formerly Twitter, urging her followers to ask Governor Greg Abbott to grant a 30-day reprieve.

Cantu is scheduled to be put to death tomorrow, Wednesday (Feb. 28). According to multiple reports, he was convicted for the shooting and killing of his cousin, James Mosqueda, and his fiancee, Amy Kitchen. The murders happened in 2000, and Cantu was found guilty and sentenced to death the following year. Reportedly, the new evidence claims that two of the state’s key witnesses, his then-girlfriend and her brother, gave false testimony.

Since being sentenced over 20 years ago, Cantu has maintained his innocence.
