Whoopi Goldberg Criticized After Suggesting President Joe Biden Could ‘Throw Every Republican In Jail’ If He Has Immunity As President

Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg is facing some backlash over her perspective on Donald Trump’s legal woes.

While discussing the former President’s criminal election interference case, the 68-year-old theorized that President Joe Biden could arrest all Republicans, which didn’t take well on social media.

Specifically, Whoopi Goldberg stated on Thursday’s February 29 episode of The View:

“Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says ‘Yes [Donald Trump] has all those rights [as a former President], he is immune to everything.’ You know what Joe Biden could do since he’s presently President? He could throw every Republican in jail.”

Making it clear, however, that she doesn’t necessarily support the idea, Whoopi Goldberg continued:

“This is not a good thing…what this means is he could do anything. He could dismiss everybody’s debt…there’s a whole bunch of great stuff that could happen but let’s really look at what this means.”

Goldberg’s co-host Joy Behar chimed in, asking her fellow co-hosts why the Supreme Court would continue to delay the case if they want to deter presidents from holding such “extreme power.” Despite the women going on to express their personal opinions that it wouldn’t be right for Joe Biden to have the ability to do things like put all members of the opposing political party behind bars, social media users condemned Goldberg for even making the comment in the first place. Though a few did come to her defense.

In case you’re unfamiliar with what’s happening in Washington, former president Donald Trump is facing criminal charges for allegedly interfering with the 2020 election. The businessman-turned-politician is fighting for the case to be thrown out, arguing that he has “absolute immunity” as the former head of state, which should protect him from the indictment and his other various criminal cases. Despite widespread criticism, the Supreme Court will hear Trump’s argument in court, which could ultimately impact his current presidential campaign and the validity of the US Constitution itself.

The hearing about the Jan. 6th case is reportedly scheduled for April 22nd.
