Dame Dash Says Jay-Z ‘Pretended’ To Be The CEO Of Roc-A-Fella To Stop Him From Selling His Stake In Label

Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash is still putting up a fight to sell his stake in the iconic record label to satisfy a six-figure judgment against him.

During a recent interview, the 52-year-old record executive addressed his desire to give up his percentage of Roc-A-Fella and the drama behind his decision. As you may recall, Dame Dash was ordered by a New York judge to hand over his cut of Roc-A-Fella as a way of settling his reported $823,000 debt owed to filmmaker Josh Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures.

While Dame Dash attempted to sell his interest in Roc-A-Fella at a public auction back in 2021, he said fellow founders Kareem “Biggs” Burke and Jay-Z went against the action by hiring the record label’s lawyers as representation and stating specific rules within the company prohibit sell-offs without approval from the board.

In the new interview, the entrepreneur explained what allegedly went down when he attempted to give up his stock at the auction. In addition to using the hip-hop label’s legal team to sue him, Dame claimed his former partners acted as the CEOs of Roc-A-Fella to prevent the sale from moving forward.

Dame said,

“What Jay did was pretend to be the CEO of Roc-A-Fella, hire his lawyers on Roc-A-Fella Inc.’s behalf and sued me.”

He continued,

“But Roc-A-Fella Inc. was the one paying the legal fees. So in essence, Jay’s using my money to pay his lawyers to sue me about something I did not do.”

Dame furthered,

“Finally, the judge was like, ‘Yo, he could sell his interest. Those bylaws that you put in 2021 are not applicable. You can’t tell that man he can’t sell his private property.’ Whether it’s to pay a bill or whatever. So now I get to take it to auction like I originally wanted to. And it’s like I have an order of protection against Jay and Biggs from trying to put a lawsuit on it.”

Regarding the judgment Dame must pay in order to settle his lawsuit with movie producer Josh Webber, he noted,

“And now I can sell it. Now I have to pay this cat whatever the judgement is, it’s under a million, but, who’s trying to sell it for a million?”

He added,

“Jay and them can’t stop it. Period. Jay and Biggs can’t stop it. And that was the whole purpose of making sure that it could go to auction publicly. ‘Cause I don’t really want to be apart of it so much anymore. I just want to sell it and fund my other businesses with it.”

Dame also mentioned during the episode that he wouldn’t mind passing the torch to Harlem rappers Cam’ron and Ma$e to run Roc-A-Fella. The label is known for once housing some of the music industry’s accredited artists; including Kanye West, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Jadakiss, Teairra Marí, and The Diplomats before its end in 2013.
