Ex-College Football Player ‘Hasn’t Stopped Crying’ After Fatally Shooting His Mother He Mistook As Intruder, Bail Set At $100,000
Sad news!
A Missouri man is behind bars and mourning his mother after accidentally killing the 56-year-old woman. According to reports, on Thursday (Mar. 7), 25-year-old Jaylen Johnson was at his home in the St. Louis suburb of Olivette with his girlfriend when he heard someone attempt to enter the residence from the backdoor around 7:30 in the morning. The former college football player purportedly believed the individual at the backdoor was an intruder and fired his weapon at the person entering the home.
Johnson quickly learned, however, that the person at the door was his mother, Monica McNichols-Johnson, who reportedly also lived there. It’s said that he immediately called 911 while his girlfriend tried to help his mom. Unfortunately, McNichols-Johnson died at the scene. Her son was arrested and was reportedly charged with manslaughter and armed criminal action. His bail was set at $100,000.
His lawyer recently released a statement on how he’s been doing following the tragic incident and said he’s distraught. The attorney added,
“He hasn´t stopped crying.”
Reportedly, Johnson has no criminal history. It’s also important to note that Missouri is a stand-your-ground state, meaning residents can legally use deadly force if they feel they’re in danger.
Our prayers are with the loved ones of the Johnson family.
