Will Smith Seemingly Reveals He’s Not The Biggest Fan Of Popular ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel Air’ Theme Song

Sometimes artists can have mixed feelings about their biggest hits.

Will Smith is a man of many talents. The 55-year-old has been thriving in his movie bag as of late, but he’s had success in many other areas in the entertainment industry. Before he became the film star he is today, Will Smith got his acting start by starring in the 90s NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The rapper/actor and DJ Jazzy Jeff are the masterminds behind the iconic theme song for the series, which many people know around the world.

During a recent interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman, Will Smith spoke about how the theme song is well-loved and shared his true feelings about the track. When asked about his relationship with the song, Will said,

“It’s just the biggest record I’ve ever had. There’s like, everywhere in the world and I haven’t been on stage at any point in the last 20 years where I didn’t hold the microphone out and everybody knew every word of the theme song, and every country and people don’t even speak English know the phonetic.”

Speaking specifically on whether he likes the song or not, Will revealed after a brief pause to collect his thoughts,

“I like what it means to my life. I wouldn’t say I like [the theme song]. But I like what it means.”

Despite Will’s ambivalence toward the tune, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” opening track has proven to be timeless. Controversial commentator Candace Owens even rapped the lines of the song to prove her Blackness during a recent interview with “The Breakfast Club.”
