After the 2022 release of ‘Emancipation,’ where he portrayed a runaway slave, Will Smith is rumored to play in an all-new film titled ‘Sugar Bandits.’

The forthcoming action-thriller is based on author Chuck Hogan’s famous novel, ‘Devils in Exile,’ and finally headed to the big screen a decade after it was announced.

With a screenplay also helmed by Hogan himself, ‘Sugar Bandits’ focuses on an ex-Iraq combater who teams up with fellow veterans to take down the drug trade in Boston.

While some sources have cited that Smith will play the lead in the anticipated blockbuster, others claim that the ‘King Richard’ trouper is in place to serve as a co-star.

Additionally, the 55-year-year will produce alongside Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki through his entertainment company, Westbrook Studios.

At this time, a release date is currently unknown as details are limited.

It’s good to know that Smith is still in his acting bag!

As you may know, many feared if ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ legend would hold the same impact in the upper echelon of the film/TV industry after his Oscars debacle with fellow actor/comedian Chris Rock.

Will Smith, Chris Rock

As previously reported, in 2022, Smith made global headlines for slapping Chris Rock on stage at the Academy Awards.

The physical attack ensued after Chris Rock joked that Smith’s wife’s (Jada Pinkett Smith) buzz cut reminded him of Demi Moore in the 1997 classic ‘G.I. Jane.’

Smith took offense to the joke due to Pinkett Smith battling alopecia areata, an immune condition that causes hair loss.

Following the incident, Smith was banned from the ceremony for 10 years and had many of his top-dollar projects put on hold.

Jada Pinkett Smith

Smith has since taken accountability for his actions and said in one of his public apologies,

“I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were no indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

While opening up about the subject in an interview last year, Pinkett Smith  expressed:

“What I will say is that being there with him that night, what I did know is that I might not have walked in there as his wife, but I left that night as his wife. And as I sit here today, I am going to be by his side always.”
