UPDATE: Ashanti & Nelly Are Having A Baby & Are Engaged!

Update (April 18, 2024): Not only is Ashanti going to be a mom, she’s going to be a bride!

She and Nelly, who are expecting their first child together, are also engaged. The “Happy” singer, 43,  told Essence,

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

The couple announced that they are co-owners of Proov, a home testing service for those trying to conceive. Amy Beckley, PhD, founded the program and owns it with the couple.

The two famously dated for a decade in the early 2000s before calling it quits in 2013. They rekindled their romance in 2023.

The singer confirmed today (Apr. 17) that she’s pregnant! The adorable announcement video appears to take place inside the Barclays Center. The footage shows a few people calling for Ashanti to come out ahead of a show. However, the “Rock Wit U” artist is a little preoccupied with taking a pregnancy test backstage. After she’s asked, “How much time do you need,” Ashanti shows the test strip for the early pregnancy kit and says,

“I’mma need about nine months.”

She captioned the post,

“Baby baby baby baby….”

Ashanti’s video seemingly confirms rumors that she’s expecting her first child with rapper Nelly. Whispers she was pregnant first surfaced in December following the “Dilemma” rapper’s Black and White Ball in St. Louis. During the event, Ashanti put her hand on her stomach as she stood on stage with Nelly, who did the same.

This will mark baby number three for Nelly who already has two (adult) children — daughter Chanelle, 29, and son Cornell Haynes III, 24. It’s also important to note he raised his niece Sydney and his nephew Shawn after his sister Jackie Donahue died from leukemia in 2005.
