Donald Glover & Maya Erskine Not Expected To Return For 2nd Season Of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,’ Viewers Name Issa Rae, Nicole Beharie, John Boyega & More As Possible Replacements

Lovers of Amazon Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith have put on their casting hats!

News recently broke that the popular series has been renewed for a second season!  However, insiders claim there’s a chance the show’s stars won’t return for another go around. Reportedly, despite the crazy cliffhanger of the first season (no spoilers here) rapper/actor Donald Glover (John Smith / Michael) and actress Maya Erskine (Jane Smith / Alana) have no plans of picking up their secret agent gear to tie things up for fans.

However, there’s a possibility Donald Glover will do some behind-the-scenes work as he’s still credited as a co-creator and executive producer alongside Francesca Sloane, who will return as showrunner.

No word yet on the official plans for season two, but fans have already thrown out the idea that the show should now be an anthology series. This would mean each season would introduce a new location, storyline, and characters. Concerning the possible front-runners, Mr. & Mrs. Smith viewers have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share who they feel would be the best for the seemingly open roles.

One person suggested,

“I would like to see Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jurnee Smollett.”

However, not feeling their possible bond, someone responded with,

“Idk about their chemistry but the acting intensity would be >>>>>>>>>>>>”

Actress Nicole Beharie’s name was mentioned several times, some paired her with Kofi Siriboe, while others said she’d be a better match for her Black Mirror co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Other favorites for the fictional casting project were Issa Rae, Dev Patel, and John Boyega.
