Travis Scott — Family Of 9-Year-Old Boy Who Died At Astroworld Festival Want To ‘Continue The Process Of Healing’ After Settling Lawsuit w/ Rapper & LiveNation: ‘Never Forgetting’
Update (May 24, 2024): Travis Scott is one step closer to putting the Astroworld Festival tragedy behind him.
The Grammy-winning rapper, Live Nation, Apple, and other companies involved in the filing reached a settlement agreement over the 2021 deadly concert series, where 10 people died and hundreds were injured.
Scott West, the attorney for the family of the youngest victim, 9-year-old Ezra Blount, said the settlement was made earlier this week, and will be presented in court today (May 24). A hearing is set for June 3. West added in a statement,
“The family is happy to resolve its claim against all defendants following the death of their son, Ezra. They look forward to continuing the process of healing and never forgetting.”
The case was scheduled to go to trial in September. Now, that slot could go to an injury lawsuit that was filed after the festival.
Ezra Blount attended the Houston concert with his father on the fateful day. He was on his dad’s shoulders when the mob formed and people violently pushed and shoved one another. His dad passed out and when he regained consciousness, Ezra Blount was nowhere around. His family later found him in a medically-induced coma at Texas Children’s Hospital. His family made the tough decision to pull him from life support a few days later. He died of compression asphyxia, and his death was ruled an accident.
His family was one of nearly a dozen who filed a lawsuit after the unthinkable deaths. In the complaint, they alleged that Ezra Blount was “kicked, stepped on, and trampled, and nearly crushed to death,” causing him to have serious organ damage.
This lawsuit was the last one related to a death, as all of the others have been settled. Most recently, 23-year-old Madison Dubiski’s family settled during a delay in the proceedings caused by Apple. However, there are hundreds of cases related to injuries that are still ongoing.
Families of other victims who died, Axel Acosta, 21, and Brianna Rodriguez, 16, came to a settlement agreement in 2022.
Mirza Baig, 27, Rodolfo Pena, 23, Bharti Shahani, 22, Franco Patino, 21, Jacob Jurinek, 20, and John Hilgert, 14, also died at the festival.
Continued thoughts and prayers for the families impacted by the tragedy.
