Oprah Says She Wasn’t Offended After Gayle King Disclosed Her Recent Stomach Bug Condition During Live TV Segment
Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are offering reassurance to the public after Gayle’s on-air confession about Oprah’s recent emergency room visit grabbed headlines.
Gayle King, 69, posted an Instagram video of a brief conversation she had with her bestie, Oprah Winfrey, 70, after revealing on CBS This Morning that Oprah had a stomach condition where “stuff was coming out of both ends.”
To clarify her earlier remarks, Gayle King’s video was captioned,
“She was sidelined with a stomach virus that caused such dehydration that she went to the hospital to get an IV drip. I thought I made that clear but next thing I know I’m surprised to see headlines that scream “Oprah’s hospitalized!” (She was NOT!)”
She continued,
“I’m bombarded with calls asking if Oprah is okay. The answer is yes! And now let’s go straight to the source.”

The video features Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey on a FaceTime call, discussing the incident in more detail and providing insight into Oprah’s current condition.
Gayle explained,
“I never said you were hospitalized, I did say you had a stomach something. It was coming out of both sides, which it was.”
Oprah replied,
“I was in the emergency room. I was so dehydrated. I had dry mouth, and I couldn’t keep enough water down to get hydrated, so I went to the emergency room… and that’s it.”
Gayle noted that Oprah still seemed a bit “weakish,” and while she’s recovering, Oprah did mention that she wasn’t feeling entirely like herself yet.
In response to Gayle King mentioning Oprah’s medical condition on national television, Gayle herself stated:
“The only point I was trying to make is to show how badly you wanted to be there to promote the book.”
She then asked Oprah if she was offended by publicly sharing details of her recovery process live on CBS This Morning.
Oprah said,
“No, what I thought you were trying to do is explain why I wasn’t there and doing that in a definitive way.”

The alarming headlines declaring “Oprah Hospitalized” likely surprised both Oprah and Gayle, after Gayle explained on June 11th to the CBS This Morning audience that Oprah wouldn’t make her scheduled appearance to promote one of her book club reads.
Gayle initially mentioned,
“She had some kind of stomach thing or stomach flu where stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic, but needless to say, she ended up in the hospital… She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”
