Iman Shumpert Claims Estranged Wife Teyana Taylor Makes 2x His Income, Seeks Change In Child Support Arrangement
Retired NBA star Iman Shumpert wants to amend his current child support arrangement with his soon-to-be ex-wife Teyana Taylor.
TMZ reports that the former Cleveland Cavaliers player filed a motion recently to reduce his monthly payments, arguing that he’s earning significantly less than his former spouse.
Iman Shumpert alleged in the court documents that his gross monthly income before tax totals around $47,981, while Teyana Taylor’s allegedly falls around $93,885. Despite the severe income difference, the sports personality claims he’s continued giving the songstress $8,000 monthly to care for their two children, 8-year-old Junie and 3-year-old Rue.
To even things out, Iman Shumpert reportedly asked a court judge to sign off on reduced monthly payments, adding that he’ll continue health insurance payments for “major” medical expenses as long as all other health care costs for the kids are split down the middle. Shumpert and Teyana Taylor have been going back and forth about parental custody, child support, and other terms of their divorce since the “Rose In Harlem” singer filed to end their marriage last year.
Taylor claimed in the divorce documents that her then-husband’s jealousy of her success as a singer and actress was a major factor in their breakup, despite the major money he was making while playing for the NBA. The report notes that throughout his career, Shumpert earned a fortune of around $48 million through basketball contracts alone, though he hasn’t played professionally since 2021.
In previous court hearings, Taylor reportedly claimed that Shumpert left her to cover a $200,000 bill from incomplete home renovations, and additionally accused him of withdrawing nearly $4 million from their shared accounts. It has not been reported that a judge has decided on the matter at this time.
