Anthony Mackie Explains Why He Often Rejects Fans’ Picture Requests: ‘I Choose Not To Be A Part Of Your Social Reality’

It’s no secret that Marvel star Anthony Mackie isn’t the biggest fan of taking pictures with his supporters when he’s not working. The 45-year-old has made headlines a few times over fans calling him out for refusing to pose for a photo or engage with them out in public. Most recently, in March of this year, a woman claimed on TikTok that Anthony Mackie shooed her away when she tried to start a conversation with him at a gas station.

During The Hollywood Reporter’s recently released Full Comedy Actor Roundtable, Anthony Mackie candidly shared why he tends to avoid the spotlight when away from studio cameras. Speaking to fellow famed actors, he said,

“Because of the Kardashians were kind of put in this reality where were looked at as tools, as vessels, as opposed to artists. There’s been several experiences now where people have taken pictures with me and used them for ways that I don’t deem the right way. So because of that I choose not to be a part of your social reality.”

Addressing people who claim entertainers should just accept everything that comes with being famous, he continued,

 “I have people tell me all the time, ‘Well this is what you signed up for’ and I’m like that’s crazy. That’s like telling a girl just because she put on a cute dress and went to a bar she signed up for me to harass her all night. No, in this day and age we literally learned that we have to respect everyone’s no. So if I tell you no, respect it.”
