Ice Spice Says She & Nicki Minaj Are ‘Not Close’ But ‘Definitely Good’ After Former Friend Leaked Texts Of Her Blasting The Rap Vet
Rising rap star Ice Spice is updating fans on her status with Nicki Minaj.
The “Munch” artist claimed that she’s currently in good standing with the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap, though she admitted they don’t have the “closest relationship” following the drama that unfolded a few months back.

Ice Spice, real name Isis Naija Gaston, 24, spoke about the matter during a recent cover interview. When asked about her relationship with superstar Nicki Minaj, 41, she stated:
“We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely good…We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together. I think the world does too.”

As you may recall, Ice and Nicki Minaj had a budding business relationship since the 11x BET Award winner joined Ice for the remix of her single “Princess Diana” in 2023. The song peaked at #4 on Billboards Hot 100 and earned Ice her second top 10 record, while Minaj earned her 22nd.
Later that year, the two collaborated again for the song “Barbie World,” a single from the billion-dollar box office hit Barbie that stormed into theaters last summer. However, their relationship presumably soured after Ice’s former friend and fellow artist Baby Storme released scathing text messages, that saw Ice heavily criticizing Minaj over contract disagreements.

Speaking about the fallout with her ex-friend, Ice stated:
“I think that the saddest part of the whole situation, it’s somebody I knew for so many years and called my friend had me open up and be vulnerable with them, and then took complete advantage of that for her own benefit…So that was the saddest part really, just feeling used, basically.”

Ice additionally admitted that the private outburst happened in a moment of “frustration,” and shared how she believes Minaj received the situation. She stated:
“[Nicki’s] busy as hell…I don’t really think she cares about sh*t like that coming from a random girl. But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations. I could have chose different words.”

She added:
“But at the end of the day, regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”
Minaj has not publicly reacted to the situation at this time.
