Janet Jackson Says Performing w/ Video Version Of Michael Jackson Amid Her Tour Is ‘Emotional’: ‘I Relive That Whole Journey’
Music icon Janet Jackson is still grappling with her late brother’s passing.
The singer recently admitted that performing alongside a video version of her sibling has taken her on an emotional rollercoaster, as she’s constantly reminded of the closeness they once shared.

Janet Jackson, 58, spoke about the matter during a recent interview. The songstress reflected on what it’s been like dancing with a music video version of her brother Michael Jackson on her ongoing Together Again tour, which kicked off in April of last year. The concert series features a segment where Janet performs the 1995 single Scream, which she and Michal made in collaboration for the latter’s 9th studio album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I.

Opening up about the emotional toll performing the record amid her tour has made, Janet stated:
“It’s still emotional listening to him every night, seeing him, remembering us. Mike and I wrote that song in New York, in his apartment.”
She continued:
“So I relive that whole journey and going back to that time and listening to him sing it and remembering when we were working on it and the emotion and what he was going through at that time … and just me being his little sister, always being by his side, and being that support system. That’s always been my role.”
If you recall, the song was a major hit upon its release. It peaked at #5 on Billboards Hot 100 and won a Grammy for Best Music Video in 1996. Michael, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to accidental acute propofol intoxication, was inspired to create the song in response to the negative publicity he received from his 1993 child sexual abuse allegations. At one point in the song, the ‘King of Pop’ accused the media of plotting against him, singing in tandem with Janet:
“I’m tired of injustice, I’m tired of the schemes / Your lies are disgusting / So, what does it mean, d**n it? / Kickin’ me down, I got to get up / As jacked as it sounds / The whole system sucks, d**n it.”
While Michael was never officially charged with any crimes, his legacy continues to be tainted by the claims. However, it seems that Janet is determined to keep her brother’s memory alive by highlighting the music they made together. The pop star also performed a rendition of Scream alongside the music video as a tribute to her brother during a surprise performance at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
