Actress Blake Lively Receives Mixed Reactions After Announcing New Haircare Line: ‘These Celebrity Brands Need To Be Stopped’
Another celebrity has entered the beauty brand space!
On Wednesday (July 31) Gossip Girl star Blake Lively revealed she’s launching her very own haircare line, Blake Brown Beauty, on August 4. In an Instagram post about the exciting news, she shared a lengthy caption explaining why she’s decided to start a haircare company, writing,
“Ever since I was a kid, through adolescence, early adulthood, motherhood, work, personal life, whenever, wherever, the single most identifiable part about me has always been my personality— no? Not my personality? Oh… My hair.”
After noting she spent 7 years perfecting her forthcoming product line, Blake Lively continued,
“Why create a line if I had products that worked? Great question. I wanted something that was more affordable but had the same salon/red carpet performance… turns out highest quality is most expensive, who knew?? There’s a reason brands tend to have to make compromises, but we didn’t stop til we got there. (Refer back to 7 years in the making). I also wanted scents that felt like fragrances I would actually buy as high end perfume. I wanted it to be cleaner than the products I was using with great results so I didn’t feel nervous sharing it with family.”

In another post, she shared the products fans will be able to purchase in a few days.

Following Blake Lively’s announcement, many took to the internet to question the need for another celebrity beauty line. One person wrote on X,
“These celebrities [SIC] brands need to be stopped”

Referencing Lively’s well-known rich character Serena van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl, another person said,
“b*tch I can barely afford the 2-in-1 from Costco let alone this Serena Van Der Woodsen bullsh*t”

Amid the negative comments, some did come to Lively’s defense, however. One supporter wrote under the entertainer’s IG post,
“Wow the negative comments are wild. I am personally so so excited!!! you obviously know what you’re doing when it comes to hair and it’s gonna be a revolution for everyone realizing they don’t need conditioner”

Lively is now one of several celebs who owns or is the face of a haircare/beauty line. Earlier this year Beyoncé launched her haircare line, Cécred, which took 6 years to develop. Some other famous people also in the hair industry are Tracee Ellis Ross (Pattern Beauty), Taraji P. Henson (TPH by Taraji), and Gabrielle Union (Flawless).
