MyKayla Skinner, Former US Gymnast, Says She’s Receiving Death Threats Over Criticism On Gymnastics Olympic Team, Asks Simone Biles To Call Off Her Fans

Former US gymnast MyKayla Skinner is calling on Simone Biles for help.

Earlier today (Aug. 6) MyKayla Skinner shared a video on Instagram addressing, once again, controversial comments she recently made about this year’s Women’s Gymnastics Olympic Team, which consists of Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera, and of course, Simone Biles.

According to Skinner, in addition to her public apology, she also gave private apologies to her former teammates and Olympic newcomers. However, she was shocked when Simone Biles shaded her on Instagram for claiming the current team “just don’t have the work ethic.” She said,

“Only Simone had responded and she told me that she was proud of me. You guys can imagine my surprise last week when I was celebrating our team winning gold, just to see this brought up all over again by a caption on an Instagram post.”

Skinner continued, claiming the post from Biles refueled the backlash she’s been receiving and she’s now “heartbroken” that she and her family are getting death threats.

Pleading with Biles to speak out on her behalf, she added,

“To Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to please put a stop to this. Please ask your followers to stop. You have been an incredible champion for mental health awareness and a lot of people need your help now. We’ve been hurt and attacked in ways that I’m certain you never intended.”

In her initial video, Skinner shockingly said about the current Women’s US team,

“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be….obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard…the girl’s just don’t have the work ethic.”

If you’ve been keeping up with the 2024 Paris Olympics then you’re already aware that Biles and her teammates proved Skinner wrong by winning several medals from the competition, including Gold in the team all-around final. Following the ceremony for their team medal, Biles seemingly addressed what her former teammate had to say in a caption that said,

“lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions”

Biles later alluded on X that Skinner blocked her on Instagram.
