Towanda Braxton Opens Up About Having Alopecia: ‘It’s A Part Of Who I Am’
Towanda Braxton is opening up about her health.
In the series premiere of the Braxton family’s new WeTV series The Braxtons, Towanda Braxton talks to her younger sister Trina Braxton about fans being concerned about her. Their sister, Traci Braxton, sadly died of cancer in 2022. Around that time, Towanda Braxton began rocking a bald look, causing fans to wonder if she was also privately struggling with health issues, or standing in solidarity with her sister.
She told Trina Braxton in the episode that is slated to premiere Friday night (Aug. 9),
“A lot of people was sending me messages saying, “Oh my god, is Towanda sick? Is Towanda sick? Oh my god, is she sick too?”

She recalled how all the Braxton sisters agreed to cut their hair to support Traci Braxton during her battle. Towanda jokingly called out Trina Braxton for not cutting her hair, and Trina laughed and said it wouldn’t be a flattering look for her because she has a “round face” like their mother, Evelyn Braxton.
Towanda later said in a confessional interview,
“I hadn’t exactly told the world that I have alopecia. A lot of people assume a lot of different things. I took pride in how I looked and I have to be honest, I didn’t think about my body. It was what was going on on the inside. That was ‘Oh my god, people are gonna know that I have alopecia. Oh my god, maybe people aren’t going to like me anymore.'”
In her conversation with Trina, Towanda was asked how she feels about her diagnosis now. Giving a candid answer, Towanda explained,
“I am who I am. You accept me or you just don’t accept me. It’s a part of who I am. I have alopecia and that’s just it.”
The series then showed an emotional clip of Traci Braxton in her final days, lovingly rubbing Towanda’s head.
Trina shared in a confessional interview that Traci would always show affection by rubbing Towanda’s head as she experienced patches and hair loss. Towanda suggested she wanted to cut it, and Traci encouraged her.
The teaser ended with Trina holding back tears.
