Simone Biles’ Birth Mom Pleads w/ Olympic Gymnast To Forgive Her Following Decades-Long Estrangement

Shanon Biles is asking her famous daughter for another chance.

During a newly published interview, Shanon Biles, 52, the biological mother of Simone Biles, addressed their estranged relationship and her hopes that one day, they’ll be able to rekindle. Shanon Biles’ struggles with drugs led to all four of her children being in and out of foster care throughout their adolescence. Simone Biles and her younger sister were eventually adopted by their maternal grandfather and his second wife, and her older siblings were adopted by their grandfather’s sister.

Speaking on how hard it was for her to step back as others cared for her children, Shanon Biles said,

“It was hard to give up my kids, but I had to do what I had to do. I wasn’t able to care for them. I was still using and [my father] didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right.”

She continued, noting,

“What I hear about Simone I hear through my dad. I speak to my dad all the time. We’re good now. It was just his birthday, and I called to wish him happy birthday.”

However, due to the damage she caused in their relationship, Shanon has had to witness key moments of Simone Biles’ life from the sidelines, including her wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens and recent victories at the 2024 Pair Olympic Games.

Addressing her strong desire for forgiveness from her estranged daughter, Shanon said,

“I would like to make amends with Simone personally – I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.”

She added,

“I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient.”

Shanon also revealed that although her recovery journey is something she works at daily, she is clean now and isn’t “the person [she] used to be.”

Toward the end of the interview, she said Simone’s biological dad would also like to reconnect as well. According to Shanon, she does have the famous athlete’s number but has yet to use it as she feels out of respect, and given their history, Simone should call first.
