Mariah Carey Was Not Speaking To Sister Alison Carey At The Time Of Her Passing Due To Sibling’s Alleged Drug Addiction
Mariah Carey was reportedly no contact with her sister Alison Carey at the time of her death.
On Monday (Aug. 26), the “We Belong Together” singer broke the tragic news that her mother, Patricia Carey, 87, and sister, Alison Carey, both died over the weekend, on the same day. Details surrounding their deaths are still limited at this time. However, Mariah Carey, 55, did reveal in her statement released yesterday that she “was able to spend the last week with” her mom before she passed.
As far as her final moments with her sister, it seems that the Grammy Award-winning artist wasn’t on speaking terms with Alison Carey at the time of her passing. According to TMZ, Alison’s alleged drug addiction drove her famous sister away. Sources shared with the publication that prior to their estrangement, Mariah Carey tried to help Alison out emotionally and financially, but, unfortunately, her efforts weren’t enough to push the 63-year-old onto a better path. A separate report alleged Alison’s friend said her death followed problems with her organ functions and she died in hospice care in Greene County, New York. An official cause of death has yet to be revealed, however.
It may come as no shock that the Carey sisters had a strained relationship. As previously reported, in February 2021, Mariah was hit with a 1.25 million lawsuit from Alison. The lawsuit stemmed from allegations made in Mariah’s memoir where she claims Alison gave her drugs when she was only 12.
