Judge Mathis Admits ‘Neglect’ Is The Reason His Wife Linda Filed For Divorce, But Is Hopeful For Reconciliation: ‘Imma Get My Wife Back’

TV personality Judge Greg Mathis isn’t giving up on his marriage, despite his wife filing for divorce.

During a recent interview, the 64-year-old opened up about what led to the separation and shared his plan to restore his marriage before it’s too late.

As we recently covered, Linda Mathis filed to divorce Judge Greg Mathis last week following 39 years of marriage. While she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup, Judge Greg Mathis says he’s largely to blame for the relationship deteriorating. First noting that he’s “not holding up very well,” the TV star issued a stark warning to other married men when an interviewer caught up with him between his travels, stating:

“Maybe I’ll be an example for other men, cautionary tale. Don’t neglect your wife.”

He continued:

“I’m at the airport now flying out, as I have for 25 years. My wife has been third. Serving the community, taping my show, having fun with friends. This what happens guys…never be too busy, never have too much fun beyond your wife.”

After the interviewer questioned whether the divorce had been coming for some time, Mathis got incredibly candid and honest about his part. As theJasmineBRAND covered in our original report, Linda Mathis listed the date of separation as July 17, though she didn’t file official paper work until recently.

Explaining how he failed to make his wife a priority after moving his family to Los Angeles, Mathis stated:

“I committed to staying home more…as you can see I haven’t…I was gone for three weeks, [so] that’s what July 17th meant.”

The judge furthered with a declaration that he’s intent on doing what he can to salvage the relationship, adding:

“We’re still in the same house and we’re still maintaining a friendship, and I’m trying to get my wife back. I have to show her that though…hopefully I can show her while we’re there together…hopefully she doesn’t complete the process…but I’m changing in hopes that she will. Imma get my wife back. How about that?”

Mathis went on to dispel rumors that the split is the result of him fathering another child, or due to him allegedly abusing a child. As far as speculation of infidelity goes, the judge stated that when a person is gone as much as he is, it’s understandable that a spouse would suspect their partner of cheating, noting that “neglect can create suspicion.” While he didn’t specifically deny that he’s had extramarital affairs, Mathis insisted “that isn’t the reason for this.”
