Nicki Minaj Blasts Stephen A. Smith After She’s Called Out For Criticizing Jay-Z Over Super Bowl Halftime Show Selection: ‘Another Paid Laughy Taffy Alien’
Rap superstar Nicki Minaj had some words for Stephen A. Smith.
The musician hurled a few insults at the sports analyst online today (Sep. 12) after he addressed her recent criticism of Jay-Z and the Super Bowl halftime show selection.
Captioning a reposted clip of Stephen A. Smith discussing the matter, Nicki Minaj wrote:
“Oh look yall another paid laughy taffy alien who only comes off his knees to turn around & back dat azz up. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Stephen, we don’t care. Ima tell u right now. We don’t care. If I say more it’ll be your fault. Sit down ugly,”
In a follow-up post, she added:
“All I need is a pair of clippers for dat half bald head & ima have S.A.S. SASSY tail self RUNNING BTCH !!! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz come here!!!!“
Stephen A. Smith got caught in Nicki’s crossfire following remarks he made regarding her response to Jay-Z tapping Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans next year instead of Lil Wayne, who’s native to the southern city. As previously covered, the “FTCU” rapper slammed Jay-Z over the decision, calling him a “house n***er” and suggesting that Lil Wayne was passed up for the job because of ego.
It seems Smith doesn’t agree with Nicki’s stance, however. Reacting to the matter, the TV personality insinuated that the rapper just enjoys taking issue with people, stating:
“I respect you, I respect your work, I respect what you accomplished [but] who else [are] you going to get in a beef with?”
He continued:
“Every time we turn around it’s something, Nicki. [If] you disagree with the decision, [then] you disagree with the decision, but [do] you have to talk to a brother like that?”
Smith went on to give recognition to Jay-Z and further explained his frustrations with Nicki, continuing:
“Need I remind y’all of all the hip-hop artists, all the R&B people that have been performing at Super Bowl halftime since he’s been involved in 2019? You know how hard it is for a Black man to pull off what Jay-Z pulled off…How unappreciative can you be?…It ain’t about you as an individual it’s about us. all of us, as Black people. And that brother right there Jay-Z has been front and center in pushing the envelope. You gon’ call him a sellout?… He don’t deserve that.”
It’s also important to note that, despite his partnership with the NFL, Jay-Z doesn’t have full power over the halftime performance. According to a report from NPR,
“The NFL has various boards, and, you know, someone who’s on the board that’s extremely famous is Jay-Z. And they have to agree. And so the host city brings the short list to the board. The board agrees and brings it back to the host city, saying, you know, we select this artist.”
