Two Influencers Tragically Drown After Refusing To Wear Life Jackets During Yacht Party
A story involving the tragic deaths of two social media influencers reminds us why safety procedures should always be prioritized.
According to the Daily Mail, the bodies of 37-year-old Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim and 27-year-old Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria were recovered off of Brazil’s coast in recent weeks, after their boat capsized during a yacht party where they weren’t wearing life jackets.
In a press conference about the incident, Sao Vincente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino explained why the influencers refused to wear the safety vests, telling reporters:
“Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies.”
He added:
“They said that they get in the way of their tanning.”

Investigators extensively questioned the unidentified boat captain — one of five survivors — who claims he was ordered to take six influencers to the shore despite his boat having a max capacity of five people.
When the ship was hit by roaring waves in waters known as The Devil’s Throat on September 29th, the captain says they were overwhelmed and the boat began to sink.
The report notes that Beatriz’s body was found first drifting out to sea and was recovered by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters, and Aline’s was found a week later washed up on the coast of Itaquitanduva Beach.
Authorities are still investigating to determine whether the deaths were a tragic accident or if they could’ve been prevented.
