Stephen A. Smith Reportedly Close To Inking New Deal w/ ESPN
ESPN and Stephen A. Smith are close to finalizing a new contract that could expand his role within Disney, potentially offering him access to other properties. After months of negotiations, both sides are optimistic about reaching a deal in the coming weeks. The new pact could include a “first-look” agreement for Smith-backed concepts across Disney’s general entertainment divisions.
This move is part of ESPN’s broader strategy to secure top talent, following high-profile signings like Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, and Pat McAfee. Stephen A. Smith, a key figure on ESPN’s *First Take*, has expressed interest in becoming the network’s highest-paid personality, though talks have been complicated by the challenges facing Disney’s linear TV revenue amid its heavy investments in streaming.
Stephen A. Smith’s current contract, which expires in 2025, reportedly includes an $18 million annual offer, up from his current $12 million. He has also shown interest in late-night and political programming, making appearances on Fox News and NewsNation, as well as experimenting with a late-night show on ESPN+.
