Flight Attendant Hospitalized After Falling From Plane Just Before Takeoff
A flight attendant was injured after falling from a plane at East Midlands Airport in England on Monday, Dec. 16.

The crew member, employed by the travel company TUI, was hospitalized following the incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. local time as the plane was preparing to depart, according to the BBC.

Simon Hinchley, EMA’s Operations Director, issued a statement to PEOPLE: “As first medical responders on site, our fire crews attended an incident on Monday when a member of TUI cabin crew sustained injuries as an aircraft was preparing to depart.”

According to Nottinghamshire Live, the flight attendant opened the aircraft door “expecting the stairs to have still been attached.” However, the stairs were not in place, causing her to fall.

The publication also reported that an air ambulance was among the medical personnel called to the scene. A witness told the outlet that the woman “fell to the tarmac” after opening the door.
