McDonald’s Latest Company To Scale Back DEI Practices Following Supreme Court Ruling
McDonald’s is the latest major company to scale back its DEI practices, following a Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action and rising conservative criticism. The company announced it will retire specific diversity goals, such as requiring suppliers to meet DEI targets, and stop participating in external diversity surveys. McDonald’s also renamed its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team, although it affirmed its commitment to diversity in the workforce, citing progress like 30% of U.S. leaders from underrepresented groups and meeting its goal of 25% supply-chain spending to diverse-owned suppliers by 2025. Despite these changes, McDonald’s emphasized it is not abandoning inclusion efforts, maintaining franchisee networks and pay equity, and continuing demographic reporting.
While some corporations, including Walmart and Ford, are re-evaluating DEI, experts argue DEI is evolving rather than disappearing, with McDonald’s emphasizing its belief that inclusivity gives it a competitive advantage.
