‘The Wire’ Creator David Simon Responds To Critic Who Says Black Gangs Have A ‘Low IQ’
The creator of HBO’s The Wire, David Simon, is shutting down criticism about the portrayal of Black gangs in the show.
A user on X wrote,
“David Simon’s ‘The Wire’ is an excellent series but total fantasy. black gangs are not that sophisticated, skilled, and organized. it’s mostly low iq petty crime. they’re not even adept at that level.”
David Simon clapped back, saying,
“You racist mutt. Ed Burns, the co-creator of the television narrative, was the lead investigator on the Title III cases that encountered all of the counter-surveillance and organizational depth inherent in the Baltimore dr*g game. We used the real.”

Well, Simon made it clear that The Wire, which explores Baltimore’s narcotics scene, was based on real-world experiences, drawing from both his own journalism background and his co-creator’s work in the field.
