Trailblazing ballerina Misty Copeland is opening up about her road to recovery following hip replacement surgery.
The American Ballet Theatre star shared a heartfelt update with fans, revealing that her recovery journey began after undergoing hip replacement surgery in December. Copeland described the experience as a process of patience, resilience, and learning to trust her body again.
In a social media post, the dancer reflected on the progress she’s made — from taking her first assisted steps to walking on her own. She said each phase of the recovery process has been meaningful as she works to regain strength and mobility.
Copeland emphasized that healing hasn’t been linear, explaining that consistency, support, and resilience have helped carry her through the process. Despite the challenges, she shared that she’s proud of how far she has come.
The ballerina also expressed gratitude for the encouragement she’s received along the way, thanking supporters for the outpouring of love that has helped motivate her through every stage of recovery.
Copeland, who made history as the first Black female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, continues documenting her progress as she works toward returning to full strength.
