Meta To Pay Trump $25 Million Settlement After Suspending His Account Following Capitol Hill Riot
President Donald Trump is set to receive a hefty settlement from Meta after suing the social media giant for violating his right to free speech following the January 6 Capitol riot.
In a letter from Meta’s attorneys, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company agreed to donate $22 million to Trump’s presidential library and cover $3 million in legal fees.
Trump initially filed suit against the platform in 2021, accusing it of conspiring with Democratic lawmakers to “censor” him amid widespread claims that he incited MAGA supporters to storm the Capitol after losing the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

Reports note that news of the settlement aligns with Zuckerberg’s recent efforts to mend ties with the Trump administration. This follows the billionaire’s attendance at Trump’s January 20 inauguration, multiple trips to Mar-a-Lago, and Meta’s business shifts—including pledging $1 million to Trump’s campaign, suspending its DEI initiatives, and replacing its fact-checking system with an X-style community notes format. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg has continued to express regret over Meta’s past policies.
