Trump Administration Slams Jeff Bezos’ Amazon After Retailer Announces Plans To Display Tariff Increases: ‘A Hostile & Political Act’
Looks like there’s some new tension between the Trump administration and Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.
The White House is firing back after the retailer announced plans to begin displaying tariff costs directly on product listings. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the matter in a briefing earlier today (Apr. 29), stating:
“I just got off the phone with the president about this… This is certainly a hostile and political act by Amazon.”
Leavitt also held up a 2021 article during the conference that reportedly accused Bezos of having links to a “Chinese propaganda arm,” adding:
“Another reason why Americans should buy American.”
Trump recently praised Bezos in an interview, calling him “100%” and saying, “He’s been great,” but his feelings have clearly changed since then. Amazon’s new policy would show how much Trump’s renewed tariffs are increasing prices for everyday items — a move that many see as a shot at the administration’s economic agenda.

Under Trump’s tariff plan, new taxes are imposed on goods imported from China and other countries — a protectionist strategy meant to push manufacturing back to the U.S. But it’s also raising prices for American consumers, especially on electronics, household items, and clothing.
As of now, neither Bezos nor Amazon has publicly responded to the White House’s remarks.
Do you think Amazon is being transparent… or is this a political play? Let us know in the comments!
