In a recent conversation on Michelle Obama’s IMO Podcast, the comedian shared how Kai’s journey helped him experience a deeper, more unconditional form of love, saying:

He added:
“When they went through the transition, I actually went through the transition. I went from denial to complete acceptance.”

Marlon revealed that although he and Kai’s mother were eventually able to fully embrace their child’s identity, not everyone was so supportive. The White Chicks star admitted that he lost some relationships along the way:
“There’s people that go, ‘I’m not going to associate with you because you do that, or this is against God’… But I am going to love my baby…I lost people that are small-minded, small-hearted, and self-loathing. So goodbye. And for every one I lose, I gain 150 more.”
Marlon first publicly spoke about Kai’s transition in 2023. During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, he shared how Kai, who was assigned female at birth, now identifies as trans and uses he/they pronouns.
Marlon has been candid about his own emotional evolution, from confusion to complete support and advocacy. He’s even developing a comedy special titled “Rainbow Child,” inspired by Kai’s journey, to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ youth and their families.
