Tina Knowles Recalls Tupac Calling 5-Year-Old Solange ‘Really Special’
Tina Knowles says little Solange made quite the impression on Tupac.
In her new memoir Matriarch, Tina Knowles shares a story from 1991 when 5-year-old Solange tagged along with her and big sister Beyoncé during a Girls Tyme trip to Sausalito, California. The group was recording demos, and Tina Knowles says Solange, already known for doing her own thing, wandered off by herself.
“I couldn’t find her anywhere and was in a panic,” Tina writes. Eventually, she found Solange
“sitting in a chair, smiling ear to ear and holding court as two young guys smoking Marin County’s entire supply of w**d hung on her every word.”
One of those guys? Tupac. The rapper, who was there with Shock G, was apparently charmed by Solange’s energy. Tina says Tupac turned to her and said,
“She’s really special.”
According to Tina, it was Beyoncé who later recognized Tupac once he became famous, joking that Solange was “probably telling him all these stories about us.”
