Elon Musk Resigns From Trump Administration After Blasting Controversial ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ As Wasteful
Elon Musk is officially cutting ties with the Trump administration after criticizing the president’s signature legislation as a bloated spending package.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote on X. He added, “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time.”
But behind the polite farewell was frustration. Musk slammed Trump’s so-called “big beautiful bill” as a “massive spending bill” that “undermines the work” of his Department of Government Efficiency.
“I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful,” Musk told CBS, “but I don’t know if it could be both.”
Though Speaker Mike Johnson thanked Musk for his efforts, even Republican senators like Ron Johnson and Mike Lee voiced agreement with Musk’s concerns—suggesting the Senate may push for deeper cuts.
